Lost desk cable grommet lid? Measure the ring first
The size printed on a desk grommet usually describes the hole in the desk. It does not tell you whether a replacement lid will fit the ring you already have. Keep the ring in place and start with the ledge that supports the lid.
Check for a standard spare first
Look underneath the desk and around the ring for a maker or part number. Search that number with “grommet lid”. A complete standard grommet may cost less than having an odd lid designed. Compare the whole assembly, not just the photograph.
A custom lid is worth asking about when the desk has an unusual opening, the existing ring cannot be replaced easily, or its original lid has been discontinued. We need measurements before confirming whether we can make it.
Record five things in millimetres
Measure the clear opening inside the ring in two directions. A worn or distorted ring may not be round. Record both numbers rather than averaging them.
Measure the outer diameter of the ledge where the lid rests, then its depth below the top of the ring. If an intact matching lid exists, photograph its underside and measure the locating rim separately from the visible top.
Measure the cable exit opening and the largest plug that must pass through it. Tell us whether the lid should lift out completely or has a separate removable segment. Do not unplug or dismantle equipment you cannot safely handle.
Photographs that explain the fit
Send a straight-down view of the empty ring with a metric ruler beside it, a side view showing the ledge, and the underside of any matching lid. Include a wider photograph of the desk. Keep the ruler in the same plane as the feature being measured.
If you only have a ruler, say which dimensions are approximate. Do not subtract a guessed clearance or order a nominal size from a search result. A trial fit may be needed before the final part is agreed.
What this service covers
We can review a passive cosmetic lid for an ordinary desk opening. It must not be an electrical enclosure, cable gland, fire barrier, strain relief or part of a powered socket module. It must not squeeze or cut into a cable.
No fit is confirmed from this guide. A quote needs the actual dimensions, quantity and intended use. If a standard replacement fits, use it. Keep the custom route for the part you cannot buy.
